Tally Clicker

Counting, with a memory

Support

Tally Clicker is a counter that keeps the story behind the number. If something is not behaving, the answer is very likely below. If it is not, write to us and a human will reply.

Getting started

Add a counter

Open Library and pick from 160 ready-made counters across sixteen packs, or tap + on the deck to build one from scratch.

Log a tick

Tap the large slab on the counter screen, or the circular + on any deck card. Each tap adds your step size and writes a timestamped line to the tape.

Explain a tick

Under the pad: note, camera and library all attach to the most recent tick. Long-press any line on the tape to annotate it later.

See the pattern

Pulse shows daily totals, activity by hour, active-day dots, your streak, your best day and a ranking of your busiest counters.

Common questions

My counter reset overnight. Did I lose the total?

No. A counter set to Daily, Weekly or Monthly shows the current cycle in the big number, but the all-time total sits in the stats row and never resets. Every individual tick is still on the tape. Change the cycle in Edit counter → Counting → Reset.

The minus button will not go below zero.

By design. Turn on Allow negative totals in the counter editor if you are keeping score, tracking a life total or counting down.

I tapped one too many times.

Use the undo arrow under the pad. It removes the most recent tick completely, including any note or photo attached to it. You can also long-press a line on the tape and delete it.

The camera and note buttons say "Log a tick first".

Notes and photos attach to a specific tick, not to the counter as a whole. Log the tick, then attach to it. That is what makes the tape useful months later.

My reminder did not arrive.

Check that notifications are allowed for Tally Clicker in iOS Settings → Notifications, that the reminder switch is on in the counter editor, and that the weekday circles for today are filled in. Reminders are scheduled on your device; no server is involved, so they work in airplane mode too.

How do I get my data out?

Three ways. A single counter: its menu → Export CSV. A filtered view: the share icon at the top of the tape. Everything at once: Settings → Your data → Export everything as CSV. Each opens the standard iOS share sheet, so the file goes wherever you send it.

Is my data backed up?

Everything lives in the app's own container, which is included in an encrypted iCloud or Finder device backup if you have one switched on. There is no cloud sync and no account. Deleting the app deletes everything in it, so export a CSV first if you want to keep a copy.

The daily line on the deck is not updating.

It is fetched once a day from a free public quotation endpoint. If you are offline the app shows the last one it saved, marked with a small download icon, and never blocks you from counting. It refreshes on the next launch with a connection.

Can I reorder or hide counters?

Long-press a card and choose Pin to top to keep it first, or Archive to move it off the deck without losing a single tick. Archived counters live in Settings → Your data → Archived counters and can be restored at any time.

The animations are too much.

Switch on Reduce Motion in iOS Settings → Accessibility → Motion. Tally Clicker removes every spring, spark and confetti animation and falls back to short fades. Haptics and the click sound have their own switches in the app's Settings.

Does it work on iPad?

Yes, as a first-class layout rather than a stretched phone screen: a side rail instead of a bottom bar, two or three columns on the deck, and a split stats-and-pad layout on the counter screen. All four orientations are supported on both iPhone and iPad.

How do I start again from scratch?

Settings → Your data → Erase everything. It deletes every counter, tick, note and photo on the device immediately and cannot be undone.

Accessibility

Every control is labelled for VoiceOver, all text scales with Dynamic Type including the bundled documents, the six themes are contrast-checked in both light and dark, and Reduce Motion is fully respected.
